The Department of History aims to foster an understanding of societies, cultures and economies across diverse chronological and geographical spectrums. Our vision is to empower students to ask meaningful historical questions; differentiate between primary and secondary sources and critically analyze them. We are working towards developing an appreciation amongst our students for the complex interplay between change and continuity in human experiences. We encourage interdisciplinary engagement with related fields such as Anthropology, English, art, geography, sociology, political science and international relations. Our mission is to inspire and equip students to critically explore the past and understand its complexities and relevance to the present and future. We work towards promoting intellectual curiosity, interdisciplinary engagement and respect for cultural diversity through rigorous teaching, innovative research and active community involvement.

In order to fulfill our vision, our mission is to train our students to use the historical sources and scholarly writings in a more objective and holistic manner, teaching them the significance of culling of facts in a manner which does not lead to mythification of History.

We adopt the method of teaching through experiential learning in order to engage our students directly with the past through hands-on, immersive and practical experiences. In this context, we also do organize visits to historical sites, monuments, museums and archives for firsthand historical experiences. Thus, our mission remains to acknowledge and demonstrate the relevance of History in addressing current challenges and shaping a more informed society.
