Research Centres

For the progress of any academic discipline-in fact, for the progress of academics in general-research is one of the most important activities that academicians undertake. To research is to find-anew: to work on the existing stock of knowledge and create epistemological breakthroughs towards the furthering of not only a specific discipline but human civilization itself. As a matter of fact, the etymological root of the word research can be traced back to the French word “recherche” which means to “go about seeking”. Research, hence, is an integral part of discourse as the systems of the latter function to advances, modulate, and modify itself. Thus, as an activity, research becomes imperative towards the formation of ideas and, through such formulations, create theoretical frameworks which push in shifts of the episteme. In such, for any academic institution to flourish and find possible permanence, research becomes indispensable. Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College, understanding the paradigmatic importance of research activities, provides ample space, time, and opportunity to students and faculty of the college to initiate and participate in research activities. There is, in the college, a Research and Development Cell which grants monetary and systemic help to all those who wish to involve themselves with specific and extra-syllabi discursive practices through research. The faculty of the college may apply to the Cell to avail its facilities and further a work which, in the grand scheme of things, is quite humanitarian. Aside the Cell, there are major centers in the college which promote the spirit of research. The Centre for Disability Research and Training allows its members and the college to engage with the rising field of Disability Studies and understand how human existence and constructed infrastructures are marked by embodied experiences. The GAD MMTTC, on the other hand, allows teachers from across the nation to interact with researchers at the cutting edge of their respective fields and learn how to incorporate their own work into their pedagogical practices.
