Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya National Mission on Teachers and Teaching (PMMMNMTT) scheme was launched to bring about qualitative improvement in teaching and learning. One of the primary objectives of the scheme is to develop teacher specific Open Educational Resource (OER) material, which can enhance the quality of both teachers and teaching at the national level.
The “Teacher’s e-Kit” conceptualised by Prof. Vimal Rarh, was evolved to furthering the cause of the scheme. It contains the OER materials in the form of “e-Content in Four Quadrant Format”. It aims at providing teachers a ‘digital kit’ which eventually would facilitate Blended Learning through Flipped Classroom Model. In addition, the Kit will also familiarise teachers with the revised Bloom’s Taxonomy, which will not only help them in effective transaction of curricular provisions but also assessment of higher order cognitive operations. It is a unique blend of subject, pedagogy and ICT.
The proposed shift of Teaching-Learning from Traditional Face to Face mode to Flipped classroom Mode coupled with Revised Bloom’s Taxonomy of educational objectives has the potential to make qualitative improvement in teaching and learning. Indeed, Teacher’s e-Kit meets all those requirements which are essentially required by a professional teacher for effective teaching and learning.
One module of “Teacher’s e-Kit” aims to cater to teaching material required by a teacher to teach a topic in a conventional 1-1.5 hour class. It comprises of following four components as e-Content in
Unique templates have been evolved for each quadrant which provide a base of pedagogy and ICT
tools as a framework for integration with subject, given as under:
1. Quadrant I: Teacher’s Manual - This guides a teacher on how to teach a topic effectively with emphasis on pre-requisites, learning-outcomes, delivery process for implementing the Flipped Classroom Methodology (Getting Started, how to introduce the topic, how to make it interesting, what text material or video to be given for Self-learning as Homework to student, what to discuss in the classroom, what assignments and quizzes to be provided, how to differentiate different types of learners, etc.).
2. Quadrant II: Teacher’s Presentation and Video for Flipped Classroom- The presentation can be used for teaching in the classroom (face to face or online) and the video for Flipped Classroom can be provided as Homework to learners beforehand.
3. Quadrant III: Teacher’s Assignments – This comprises of Subjective questions and Objective Questions tagged with revised Bloom’s Taxonomy levels and difficulty levels. These questions can be used to create various assignments and quizzes as per different types of learners.
4. Quadrant IV: Teacher’s Know More- This comprises of value additions a teacher should know to infuse creativity amongst the learner and to meet the curricular provisions for the holistic development of the learner. These include amongst others some common misconceptions, did you know, points to ponder, activities or do yourself, some interesting facts, crosswords, etc.
I gratefully acknowledge the contributions of Prof. Ved Prakash and Prof. A.K. Bakhshi. I also value the contributions of Prof. K V. Bhanumurthy, Dr Priyanka Thakral and Dr. Arun Julka. I am wholeheartedly thankful to all the contributors of the Ready Teacher’s e-kits as coordinators, authors and reviewers with a special mention to Dr. K. K. Arora and Dr. Sarita Passey.
