About

The Punjabi Sahit Sabha ‘Firdaus’ at SGTB Khalsa College is a prestigious literary society dedicated to nurturing and promoting the rich heritage of Punjabi literature. This vibrant society encourages students to express themselves creatively through various forms of writing, including poetry, prose, drama, quiz competitions, paper readings, declamation, and more. The Sabha provides a dynamic platform for students to celebrate and preserve Punjabi culture, language, and traditions.

Society Activities

  1. Orientation Program (September 4, 2024): The Punjabi Department hosted a successful orientation for first-year students, introducing them to faculty, curriculum, and the Sabha’s activities. Inspirational talks by senior faculty members and an overview of the New Education Policy (NEP) set the tone for the academic year.
  2. Literary Translation Workshop (October 10, 2024): A workshop jointly organized by the Punjabi and English departments to discuss the importance of literary translation. The workshop addressed the challenges of translating Punjabi literature into other languages, focusing on multilingualism, cultural exchange, and skill development in line with the NEP 2020.
  3. Inter-College Quiz Competition (December 5, 2024): The Department organized an Inter-College Quiz Competition in honor of the martyrdom day of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji. The quiz focused on the life and literary contributions of Guru Tegh Bahadur, encouraging students to explore the historical and philosophical aspects of his teachings. The event concluded with a ceremony at the College Gurudwara Sahib, where winners were awarded certificates and prizes.
  4. Career Guidance Workshop (January 31, 2025): Organized by Punjabi Sahit Sabha, the session featured Mr. Prakash Singh Gill (Punjabi Helpline), who guided students on career opportunities in civil services, teaching, journalism, and translation through Punjabi. Eminent speakers inspired students to embrace Punjabi as a professional medium.

  5. Talk on Partition Chronicles & Meet the Author (February 7, 2025): A collaborative event by the Departments of Punjabi, History, and Political Science, featuring author Sanwal Dhami. His heartfelt stories of Partition survivors left a deep emotional impact on the audience, emphasizing remembrance and healing.

  6. Parwaaz: Inter-College Short Play Competition (February 12, 2025): Organized with Robaroo Theatre Group and Vijay Suri Foundation under IQAC, this competition showcased powerful short plays and monoacts on social issues. Teams from DU participated, with Hindu College securing first place.

  7. Session with Sahitya Akademi Awardee Dr. Paul Kaur (February 14, 2025): In collaboration with Punjab Arts Council, this session explored Dr. Kaur’s book Sun Gunvanta Sun Budhvanta, blending Punjab’s history, spirituality, and poetic vision. The event featured readings and scholarly discussion on Punjabi identity and tradition.

  8. International Mother Tongue Day Celebrations (February 20–21, 2025): Celebrated by Punjabi Sahit Sabha with an Akharkari workshop and an art exhibition, promoting love for the Punjabi language and cultural pride among students through creative expression.

  9. Mini Punjab Exhibition (Lashkara 2025) (April 3, 2025): Part of the annual cultural fest Lashkara, this event recreated rural Punjab through traditional food, music, attire, and cultural displays. A vibrant celebration of Punjabi lifestyle and heritage.

  10. Lok Nach Mukabla (Folk Dance Competition) (April 5, 2025): A highlight of Lashkara 2025, this competition brought alive the spirit of Punjab through dynamic folk dance performances by students from across colleges, judged by noted cultural scholars.

  11. Inter-College Kaav Mukabla (Poetry Competition) (April 5, 2025): Also part of Lashkara, this poetry competition saw enthusiastic participation from DU colleges. Judged by Prof. Prithviraj Thappar, the event celebrated Punjabi literary expression and youth creativity.
