Activities Organized by the Department

International Conference on Mathematical Sciences and its Applications

The Department of Mathematics of SGTB Khalsa College has actively hosted a number of events related to the field of Mathematics in college premises. Very recently, it organised the International Conference on Mathematical Sciences and its Applications (ICMSA-2024) during October 15–17, 2024. Over 140 delegates from India and abroad joined the conference wherein eminent mathematicians from various reputed institutes including Prof. Eberhard Malkowsky from State University Novi Pazar, Serbia and Prof. Yasunori Kimura from Toho University, Japan delivered invited and plenary talks. The conference emerged fruitful for all participants and provided great exposure to the department students.

Power of Mathematical Modelling

On 27th February 2024, a workshop on Power of Mathematical Modelling was held by the Department which began with an Introductory Session by Prof. Satish Verma on working with matrices in Excel followed by two interactive sessions by Prof. Karmeshu, Shiv Nadar University and Dr. Saroj Kumar from South Asian University, New Delhi.

Webinar

On 31st August, 2021, a webinar was conducted by the Department which included two sessions:

  1. on Fundamentals of Biostatistics as Application in Public Health Researches by Dr. Pranava Prakash, Public Health Scientist.
  2. on Issues in Research and Data Analysis by Prof. Jaswinder Singh, Former Principal, SGTB Khalsa College.

Estimation & Testing of Hypothesis

On 23–24th August, 2021, a webinar on the Estimation & Testing of Hypothesis was organised with the resource person as Prof. Suresh Kumar Sharma, Professor at the Department of Statistics, Panjab University, Chandigarh.

Biostatistical & Mathematical Skills with Excel & R

On 16–31st August 2021, an Interdisciplinary Online Faculty Development Programme on Biostatistical & Mathematical Skills with Excel & R was organised in collaboration with the Department of Botany of the college.

Data Analysis using R & Python

A 15-day Student Development Programme was held on Data Analysis using R & Python in collaboration with Spoken-Tutorial, IIT Bombay from 20th October to 04th November, 2020. On 19th February 2020, the Department of Mathematics organised a workshop consisting of a series of lectures on Vivid Mathematical Skills delivered by the following subject experts:

  1. on Mathematics of Natural Language Processing (NLP) by Dr. Amita Jain, Assistant Professor, Ambedkar Institute of Advanced Communication Technologies and Research.
  2. on Workshop on Various Mathematical Skills by Dr. Gagan Singh, Director, Gagan’s Winning Edge Persona Program (GWEPP).
  3. on Scoce of Mathematics in Actuarial Sciences by Akshay Singh, Head, The Premiere Institute – SANKHIKIYA.

Randomised Response Model

On 08th January 2020, an introductory lecture on the Randomised Response Model was delivered by Dr. Sat Gupta, Professor (and then-head) at the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, University of North Carolina, Greensboro Campus.
