The Department of Economics, SGTB Khalsa College, organized an orientation programme for the first-year students of B.A. (Hons.) Economics on 29 July 2026 to familiarise them with the academic requirements, and the college procedures. Students were introduced to the college rules and regulations and were encouraged to uphold academic integrity, discipline and responsible conduct throughout their academic journey.

The students were given an overview of the curriculum under the National Education Policy (NEP), including the programme structure, course selection process, and credit requirements. They were also guided on accessing the class timetable and using the SmartProf portal for academic updates, attendance and other academic-related information. The library team familiarised students with the library's resources, and digital facilities. In addition, the students were introduced to the various departmental and college societies and were encouraged to participate actively in co-curricular and extracurricular activities for their overall development. The programme concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session during which students’ queries were addressed, helping them begin their university journey with confidence.

Ecotryst, the Economics Society of SGTB Khalsa College, organised a
Financial Literacy Session on the topic “Knowledge to Prosperity: My First
Pay Cheque” on 8th September, 2026 at 11.30 am in the Seminar hall. The
session was attended by around 80 students and the faculty members of the
college. The speaker of the session was Mr. Lalit Sharma, AVP, Investor
Education, Distributor Development & Digital Initiatives, Aditya Birla Sun Life
AMC Limited. The speaker was felicitated by the Vice Principal of the college,
Prof. Harbans Singh.
The seminar focused on helping students understand how to manage their first
income wisely, build healthy financial habits early in life and make informed
decisions that support long-term financial well-being. The discussion revolved
around budgeting, saving, investing and the power of compounding. The
speaker discussed the importance of financial literacy at an early stage,
financial freedom and the goal-based financial planning.
The session began with an explanation of CTC (Cost to Company) and the
transition from education to employment. A video on the first pay cheque
initiated a discussion on “what will you do with your first salary?”. The
students were encouraged not to become a part of the rat race and were
reminded that the future may not always be a “bed of roses”. Several
investment myths such as investing is complicated, only the rich can invest etc.
were addressed. The principle, Income – Savings = Spending was also
highlighted.
The seminar concluded with an interactive question answer round, wherein the
students had the opportunity to ask questions and clarify their doubts related to
financial planning, saving, and investment. This was followed by a Vote of
Thanks to the speaker, faculty members and the organising team.

- The Economics Society of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College, Ecotryst, organized an intellectually enriching speaker session on the topic “Can the Indian Economy Withstand the Tariff and Geopolitical Headwinds?” on 7th November 2025. The distinguished speaker for the session was Professor Ram Singh, a noted economist and policymaker who serves as the Director and Professor at the Delhi School of Economics, the Director of the Delhi School of Public Policy and Governance, and a member of the Monetary Policy Committee of the Reserve Bank of India.

- Ecotryst, The Economics Society of SGTB Khalsa College, successfully organised two engaging events — a Case Competition and an IPL-style Auction Simulation — aimed at fostering practical learning and application of economic concepts among students on 24th March, 2026.

-Ecotryst, the Economics Society of SGTB Khalsa College successfully organized a heartfelt Economics department farewell for its third-year students on 28 April 2026 at the seminar hall of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College. The event was aimed to celebrate the journey and achievements of the graduating batch.

  • Six students of BA (H) Economics (Third Year), under the guidance and leadership of the Faculty Coordinator, Dr Rupali Sharma, participated in an Indo-Bhutan exchange program for undergraduate economics students. These six students who were selected to be a part of a ten member team from all over India were Ms Ishitaa Bhagat (Student Team Leader), Ms Tanisha Jain, Ms Pashmeen Kaur Kalra, Ms Achint Kaur, Mr Aakarshit Sinha and Mr Rohan Papdeja.

An Interactive Session with Principal Sir was conducted on 13th Sep, 2023. A talk on the topic "Prospects in Indian Economic Services" by Dr. Mohan Chutani, a former IES officer was organized on 18th Sep, 2023. A fun event "FILMONOMICS: Where Economics Meets Movie Magic" was conducted on 28th Oct, 2023. Ecotryst events conducted during Laskara, the Annual College Festival on 15th March, 2024: The first event, titled 'Beyond the Tragedy,' was a Case Study Competition addressing issues such as Groundwater depletion, Overfishing, and Overgrazing in specific regions of Punjab, Karnataka, and Gujarat. Six shortlisted teams from various colleges presented their solutions and suggestions for these problems. The second event, 'Da Vinci Code,' was a Murder Mystery where teams had to solve a series of puzzles and clues within a given time limit, adding a fun and intriguing element to the festivities.

• On 14 October 2022, the society started off by organising an intra-college Poster Making Competition.
