On October 26, 2023, the Master Tara Singh Auditorium at SGTB Khalsa College hosted a remarkable theatrical performance that left the audience spellbound. "Master Ji," written and directed by renowned Punjabi Film Industry actor Rana Ranbir, captivated the viewers with its poignant script and execution. Sponsored by Abhay Pratap Singh, founder of the APS Judicial Academy, the play marked its 54th performance at SGTB Khalsa College. This event was a collaboration with 'Sukhanlok,' an organisation dedicated to promoting literature and art, led by Prof. Kulvir Gojra, Head, Department of Punjabi, University of Delhi. Breaking away from traditional elaborate ceremonies, the post-modern play unfolded its complex themes of life in simple lighting, using only two chairs and a suitcase as ‘Set’. Rana Ranbir, portraying Master Gurmukh, and Rajiv Boparai, as a student, adeptly navigated the dynamics of their relationship while simultaneously addressing the pressing issues such as casteism, moral depravity, and the superficiality often observed in social media. They juxtaposed these flaws with the revolutionary egalitarian philosophy advocated by the Sikh Gurus. The packed auditorium also included notable figures such as Punjabi singer Jasbir Jassi, Amandeep Sandhu, Dr. Mohinder Singh, Director, Bhai Vir Singh Sahit Sadan, Prof. Ravinder Kumar, Dean and former Head. The event closed with artists expressing gratitude to Officiating Principal, Prof. Surinder Kaur and the college for providing them with the opportunity to perform. The performance left a lasting impact on the young students and the faculty alike, who were left moved by the introspective jabs of the satire.
