Annual Report (2024-2025)

 

The Department of Political Science (POLIS) at Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College had an eventful academic session (2024-2025) marked by a series of well-organized and intellectually enriching activities. From introducing first-year students to the department through the Orientation Program to fostering democratic participation in the Student Elections and culminating in the thought-provoking competitions of Adhikar ‘24, each event reflected Polis’s commitment to academic excellence, leadership, and political engagement. Inter college Quiz Contest and Declamation organized during Lashkara 2025 were equally well attended and left huge academic footprints on the mind of the stake holders.

The academic year began with the Orientation Program, designed to familiarize first-year students with the department’s structure, faculty, and curriculum. To further strengthen the bond between new and senior students, Polis hosted Metanoia —The Official Freshers’ Party, a lively celebration that served as a platform for interaction and camaraderie. True to its academic and democratic spirit, Polis upheld the principles of student representation through its Student Elections for 2024-25. One of the most awaited academic events of the year was Adhikaar ‘24, an initiative that provided students with a platform to engage in intellectual and competitive activities related to the Constitution of India. The event featured two major competitions: the Quiz Competition and the Declamation Competition.

During the college annual festival Lashkara 2025, POLIS, the academic society of the Department of Political Science of SGTB Khalsa College organized its annual event on 5th April 2025, under the banner of POLIFEST 2025, featuring POLI-QUIZ and POLI-CANVAS, a poster-making competition on the theme of VIKSIT BHARAT.

 

 

Orientation Programme for First year Students

The Department of Political Science organised "Orientation Programme" to  interact with the freshly admitted first semester students (2024-2025) on 31st August, 2024 (Saturday) at 10.30 am in Room No. 08 at the College. Faculty members  guided the students about the future prospects of the subject and and assured them all academic and cultural support in their stay at the College. The programme was attended by a large number of first year students. Students from the second year and final year also attended it.  Almost all the faculty members attended the programme.

Students' election took place in a free, fair, democratic and transparent manner as per schedule attached.

FRESHERS\\\' WELCOME 2024

To strengthen the bond between new and senior students, Polis hosted Metanoia —The Official Freshers’ Party, a lively celebration on 09th October, 2024 that served as a platform for interaction and camaraderie. The event featured engaging performances and fun competitions, culminating in the selection of Mr. and Ms. Freshers. More than just a social gathering, Metanoia provided a sense of belonging to the incoming students, making them feel part of the larger Polis community at the College and University. 

ADHIKAR 2024

One of the most awaited academic events of the year was Adhikaar ‘24, an initiative that provided students with a platform to engage in intellectual and competitive activities related to the Constitution of India. The event featured two major competitions: 1. the Quiz Competition and 2.  the Declamation Competition. It was held on 27th & 28th November 2024.

The Quiz Competition tested participants’ knowledge of the Indian Constitution at various levels. With more than thirty teams, multiple rounds, including general knowledge, audio-visual, and rapid-fire segments, the event saw enthusiastic participation, fostering both teamwork and analytical thinking among students. In the Declamation Competition, on the other hand, there was participation of around twenty-two students from various DU institutions. It allowed participants to articulate their perspectives on provisions related Centre-state relations in the constitution. The competition was judged by esteemed judges, who provided valuable feedback to participants, encouraging them to refine their arguments and public speaking abilities.

POLIFEST 2025 DURING LASHKARA 2025

POLIS, the academic society of the Department of Political Science of SGTB Khalsa College organized its annual event on 5th April 2025 during Lashkara 2025 (annual festival of the college) under the banner of POLIFEST 2025, featuring POLI-QUIZ and POLI-CANVAS, a poster-making competition on the theme of VIKSIT BHARAT.

Following the opening ceremony, the quiz and poster-making competitions began with great enthusiasm. Participants from various colleges showcased their knowledge, creativity, and critical thinking skills, making the atmosphere vibrant and intellectually engaging.

The POLI-QUIZ was structured into three rounds. The preliminary round commenced with over 45 teams. It was conducted in pen and paper mode; the questions were set at a high level of difficulty and 30 teams were disqualified. In round two of the quiz, 15 teams competed in a fast-paced session testing their knowledge of political science and current affairs. The top 8 teams advanced to the final round, which was the most challenging, filled with intense competition and sharp thinking, making it a highlight of POLIFEST 2025.

POLI-CANVAS was filled with artistic creations that went beyond expectations, enlightening on the theme- “Viksit Bharat”. Over 15 students from various colleges brought out their thoughts and views through mesmerizing posters that left the judges stunned with their creativity.

After a scintillating and humdinger contest, the results of both the competition were announced during the valedictory ceremony, marking the successful culmination of the event.

FAREWELL PARTY FOR FINAL YEAR STUDENTS (REUNIRSE\\\\\\\'25)

REUNIRSE' 25 (The farewell party for final year students) was organised on 03rd May 2025. It was a well attended programme which refreshed the college memories of the participating students. Final year students were wished good luck in their future endeavours by the teachers and both the second and first year students. It became a very emotional experience both for the teachers and students.
