Ecotryst, the Economics Society of SGTB Khalsa College, organised a Financial Literacy Session on the topic “Knowledge to Prosperity: My First Pay Cheque” on 8th September, 2026 at 11.30 am in the Seminar hall. The session was attended by around 80 students and the faculty members of the college. The speaker of the session was Mr. Lalit Sharma, AVP, Investor Education, Distributor Development & Digital Initiatives, Aditya Birla Sun Life AMC Limited. The speaker was felicitated by the Vice Principal of the college, Prof. Harbans Singh.

The seminar focused on helping students understand how to manage their first income wisely, build healthy financial habits early in life and make informed decisions that support long-term financial well-being. The discussion revolved around budgeting, saving, investing and the power of compounding. The speaker discussed the importance of financial literacy at an early stage, financial freedom and the goal-based financial planning.

The session began with an explanation of CTC (Cost to Company) and the transition from education to employment. A video on the first pay cheque initiated a discussion on “what will you do with your first salary?”. The students were encouraged not to become a part of the rat race and were reminded that the future may not always be a “bed of roses”. Several investment myths such as investing is complicated, only the rich can invest etc. were addressed. The principle, Income – Savings = Spending was also highlighted.

The seminar concluded with an interactive question answer round, wherein the students had the opportunity to ask questions and clarify their doubts related to financial planning, saving, and investment. This was followed by a Vote of Thanks to the speaker, faculty members and the organising team.
