The Chemistry Department at SGTB Khalsa College, University of Delhi, is a vibrant hub for learning and research. It is a well-recognised centre for chemical education, offering both undergraduate and postgraduate programs.

B.Sc. (Hons) Chemistry is the most sought-after course offered by the Department which was started in 1989. It also offers B.Sc – Physical Sciences Programme. Both of these programmes are being offered as Four Year Programmes under the NEP curriculum.
It also offers many skill enhancement courses under the NEP framework for students of other departments.

The Forensic Science Unit of the Chemistry Department offers the PG Diploma in Forensic Science under the aegis of University of Delhi since 2009. This is a professional course, and the Forensic Science Unit has provided training to not only students but also to Army and Police officials. It also assists educational institutions in detecting examination frauds. (This Unit was initiated under the stewardship of Prof. G S Sodhi)

The department fosters a stimulating learning environment through a combination of classroom teaching, laboratory work, and research projects.   The department is committed to provide Holistic Development to its students by providing learning opportunities beyond the Classroom like participation in seminars, workshops, co-curricular and extracurricular activities.  The department strives to build strong connections with industry, opening up opportunities for internships and placements.

The department encourages students to engage in research early on, fostering a spirit of inquiry and innovation.  Many projects,  Dissertations,  M.Phil and Ph.Ds are guided by the Faculty members.

It also has unique distinction of having National Resource Centre of Chemistry, a centre of Ministry of Education of Government of India,  which has developed and run Annual Refresher Programme inn Teaching (ARPIT)  Courses on SWAYAM Portal for all chemistry teachers of the country in 2018, 2019 and 2020.  Under this Centre, other chemistry teachers of the country are also trained to adopt safer, greener and environment friendly approaches. These Centres are headed by Prof. Vimal Rarh (INSA Best Teacher– 2020).  She is presently Director of UGC-MMTTC (UGC-Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre), formerly known as GAD-TLC.
