Essay on Gullivers Travels (Sem 4) |
We talked about Hobbes state of nature the other day and how Swift uses it to subvert the definitions of the political. In presenting the dystopic as the utopic, Swift questions the very states that we understand as either the utopic and dystopic. This, further, is used to comment on his England. This essay shows some of those concerns. |

ENC 602 Charting the Constellation: Past and Present in Things Fall Apart Author(s): Sofia Samatar |
"Writing history is not a mere recitation of facts, but a revolutionary act with meaning for the present. Things Fall Apart was both written and received by its first readers as such an act. This essay makes use of Walter Benjamin?s ?Theses on the Philosophy of History? to explore Achebe?s novel as a project of historical reclamation." |

Narrative Proverbs in the African Novel Author(s): Emmanuel Obiechina |
"It is no longer possible to undertake a meaningful critical discourse of African literature, without seriously adverting to its oral traditional constituents in the matrix of composite forms and contents. Nor indeed is it expedient to ignore the tensions arising from the old/new, traditional/modern, oral/written and indigenous/foreign configurations which characterize the texts and contexts of the new literature of Africa". |
